Our Members

Diversity’s current membership is a mix of approximately 40-60 people from all backgrounds, professions, genders and ages. Regular weekly rehearsals and social events help to build a friendly, inclusive and fun group where friendships are made and sustained.

We tend to learn music by sight-reading at first so if you can read music this would be a real advantage. That said, we do have members who do not read music and assistance to help learn voice parts is given as well.

Joining

We are keen to remain a chamber choir, so we cap each of our singing sections to 13 singing members. New or returning members are welcome when singing spaces become available.

Singing spaces may become available in one of the four singing parts (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) during one of our 3 annual terms. As spaces become available, our Membership Coordinator will invite people from a waiting list to an informal audition.

If a current member can no longer sing or a section does not have enough singers, we will contact prospective members from our waiting list on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Please email if you would like to be added to the waiting list, including your reasons and any musical background.

Auditions

A short audition is held with the Musical Director after you are invited from the waiting list. In this informal audition, we will ask you to choose a piece to sing. Piano accompaniment is provided. We do not expect musical perfection, but we look for individuals who have at least a basic ability and a passion for singing.

Rehearsals and subscriptions

Currently, rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings between 7:15pm and 9:30pm in Soho at St Anne’s Church, 55 Dean Street, Soho, W1D 6AF.

We ask for a minimum commitment to attendance of rehearsals for a specific concert, including a requirement for 1-2 weekend rehearsals per term. There can be anywhere between 1-4 concerts per term. The minimum number of rehearsal depends on the concert schedule in each term and is set by the Music Director. Normally, it is attendance of 75% of rehearsals. Terms run Jan-Easter, Easter-Summer break, September – December

Members make a contribution towards the running costs of the choir based on their income.

Volunteering

If you’d like to get a feel of the choir or perhaps don’t feel like a confident singer, we are always looking for skilled volunteers to help with concerts and projects.

Managing a music library, handling publicity or event management are also key volunteering roles that make the choir a success. To find out more about our volunteer positions, please email us.
